Nespresso
19-bar pump and thermoblock heat in under 40 seconds inside a 3.3-inch shell. Two programmable buttons cover espresso and lungo; iFixit calls the clip-assembled internals hard to repair.
$180 typical
You pay for a compact but real high-pressure Original-capsule platform: 19-bar pump, programmable Espresso/Lungo dosing and very fast heat-up. Its value improves because Original capsules have alternatives beyond Nespresso; avoid it if an 8–12 oz coffee is your primary drink.
Allows the very small, light chassis; it is not a premium-metal construction.
Fast on-demand heat and pressure are tangible extraction hardware rather than a cosmetic feature.
One of the best objects here: genuinely tiny (about 3.3–4.3 in wide depending on version), two clear buttons and no superfluous UI. Small tank and capsule bin are the price of that elegance.
Descale regularly; teardown evidence says it is compact and hard to repair because of clips. It earns its place for extraction and physical design, not repairability.
