OnGuard OnGuard Brute STD — Bike Lock

OnGuard

OnGuard Brute STD

16.8 mm hardened TriRadius steel resisted bolt cutters entirely in OutdoorGearLab testing and needed two separate grinder cuts, all for roughly $55. No composite armor here, so pair with awareness in grinder-prone areas.

WHY THE PRICE IS JUSTIFIED

It is cheap because it uses conventional steel, not because it is flimsy: 16.8 mm hardened steel and X4P lockwork were independently tested as bolt-cutter and hacksaw resistant. It is the value choice, not a grinder-safe choice.

MATERIALS

Shackle16.8 mm hardened TriRadius steel

Too large for many bolt-cutter jaws and highly resistant to hand tools.

Locking systemX4P Quattro four-point deadbolt

Holds the shackle at four points to resist twist and pry release.

CoatingRubberized protective coating

Reduces frame damage and corrosion exposure.

IDEAL FOR

  • ·Budget-conscious city commuters
  • ·Moderate-risk daytime locking
  • ·Leaving a lock at work or school

NOT FOR

  • ·Known grinder-heavy theft areas
  • ·Overnight high-value e-bike parking without a second armored lock

DESIGN & ERGONOMICS

Honest, functional and frame-friendly, with five keys. The mount works but is less polished than Litelok/Hiplok systems; the lock is hefty enough that a pannier is nicer for long rides.

LONGEVITY

Lifetime warranty and five replaceable keys. The basic mechanism is durable but deserves regular dry lube, especially if left outdoors; bracket is the most likely replaceable part.
