Current top recommendation: Crescent CODE RED 18 in Indexing Flat Pry Bar.
$30
Crescent
Top PickThe 15-position head turns cramped demolition angles into usable leverage. A carpenter’s example survived roughly 14 years and three remodels, though the indexing joint warrants inspection.
$30
Stanley FATMAX
Thirty-six inches of forged steel supplies serious demolition force; testing pulled deck screws from a joist. Its 8.4-pound mass sacrifices portability and precision.
$16
The slim rocker head handles trim, flooring and scraping with more precision and less surface damage than larger bars. Its 15-inch reach limits heavy demolition.
$146
Hultafors
UPGRADEDESIGNThe nine-position claw improves posture and access where fixed bars stall. Thin boron-steel ends and broad contact faces suit renovation, but long-term joint wear and parts support remain unverified.
$12
Spec Ops Tools
Sharpened claws and dual strike zones make embedded nails manageable in confined spaces. Testing found secure handling and strong durability, but the claws mark wood and large tear-outs proceed slowly.
$8.48
Stanley
BUDGETThis eight-inch molding bar gives unusually fine control around trim; three veteran carpenters preferred its handling. Rough machining lowers visual polish without impairing the tested edge.
$70
Griffin Pocket Tool
A 33-gram titanium body delivered enough leverage for framing nails, staples and nailed 2x4s in testing. Hard use creates hand hotspots, and the loose clip weakens pocket retention.
